In Memoriam: Freddie Fletcher

August 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Freddie Fletcher, a dedicated and active member of our board who lost his fight with cancer on Monday evening.

Freddie was also part of a small board that helped to launch the Alan Shearer Foundation, part of St Cuthberts Care, in May this year. Austin Donohoe, Chief Executive said today: "We are all deeply saddened. Freddie was a remarkable man and we will all miss him very much. I am indebted to Freddie for his support of the charity and in particular, for his help in setting up the Alan Shearer Foundation."

Although very poorly, Freddie was able to attend the launch of the Foundation in May this year. Austin Donohoe commented: "Freddie was determined not to miss the launch in May, as it meant so much to him and I am delighted he was able to attend."

An astute and gifted business man, with a passion for both politics and football, Freddie was perhaps best known in the North East as the former Chief Executive of Newcastle United and as the man who appointed Kevin Keegan manager.

He will be greatly missed, and fondly remembered in our thoughts and our prayers for his support and encouragement.
