The search is on for sixth formers with drive, determination and business brains who will battle it out to take the title of Young Social Entrepreneurs of the Year, 2014.

The Alan Shearer Foundation is launching this year’s Young Social Entrepreneur contest where teams are invited to raise as much as they can for the charity from £250 seed money.

“Now in its fourth year the competition promises to be bigger and better with more teams and more prizes to be won,” says the Foundation Operations Manager, Nicola Milne.

“Last time over £18,000 was returned by 21 teams from schools and Sixth Form Colleges across the North East. These are vital funds which are used to enable the Foundation to continue to support its disability facilities at the Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle,” said Nicola.

The 2013 competition was a tightly fought contest which saw an all-girl team from St Thomas More School, Blaydon, just pip a team from King Edward VI School, Morpeth, by a few pounds when they made £3,200 for the Foundation.

All teams are provided with a £250 initial investment, advice and encouragement to use their creativity and business skills to return a profit before the competition ends in April next year. Winning teams are presented with their awards at a special ceremony in summer 2014.

The closing date for entries is Friday 27 September 2013.
