A Marathon Thanks to our Marathon Runners

Great North Runner, Gemma White races towards the Tyne Bridge

The Alan Shearer Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to our 18 runners who took part in the Great North Run on Sunday, 13 September.

Fundraising is still ongoing but the Alan Shearer Foundation is delighted to announce that over £4,900 has been raised so far.

Runners had a beautiful day for the Great North Run with blue skies and sunshine most of the day.

But, despite a few crispy shoulders and sunburnt cheeks, our runners still finished in excellent time:

Tim and Andy Baggott: 2 hours and 25 minutes
Joe Black: 1 hour 50 minutes
Adam Carr: 2 hours 52 minutes
Sarah Croft:2 hours 40 minutes
Jake Timothy-Dorward: 1 hour 39 minutes
Paul Kershaw: 2 hours and 33 minutes
Linda Laurie: 2 hours 21 minutes
Paul Lyon: 1 hour 55 minutes
Mike March: 4 hours
Stephen Townsley: 2 hours 52 minutes
Gemma White:2 hours 40 minutes
Kevin Hodgson: 2 hours 25 minutes
Aisling Marsh: 2 hours 20 minutes
Gill Wallis: 2 hours 48 minutes
Jack Welbourn: 1 hour 48 minutes
Tom Malone: 2 hours

A special mention goes out to Stephen Townsley and his cousin Adam Carr. Despite suffering an injury in his 4th mile, Stephen still completed the race and Adam stuck by his side to help him along the way.

We would also like to mention Mike March who has ran the Great North Run competitively in the past, but chose to run for the Alan Shearer Foundation this year and with none other than a Geordie themed electric guitar!

Mike played Mark Knopfler's 'Going Home' throughout the race, a song very dear to his heart and he also joined in with local bands along the route.

On his slightly longer running time, Mike explained, "My legs wanted to keep going but the guitar kept stopping me to jam with all the bands".

Keira MacCabe was our only Junior Great North runner for 2015. At 7 years old, Keira completed the 1.5 km and has so far raised over £500!
