Alan Shearer

Ten years ago today, Alan Shearer played in his testimonial game at St James's Park where over 52,000 emotional fans came to say goodbye.

Alan donated all of the money from that game to charity, and, speaking about this he said:

"There was no way I could have taken that money, so this is my way of giving something back to the people".

The largest share of the testimonial money was gifted to us at St Cuthberts Care, enabling us to fulfil our ambitions of providing a specialist facility for people with complex and profound disabilities.

Named the Alan Shearer Centre, it consists of three, distinct, highly specialist services on one site providing crucial care and support for disabled people, their families and carers.

Over the years, Alan has become increasingly involved in the Centre and, seeing first-hand how vital the facilities are to its members, decided to establish his own Foundation. The Alan Shearer Foundation, which is part of St Cuthberts Care, launched in May 2012 with the sole purpose of fundraising to directly support the Alan Shearer Activity Centre, which provides specialist leisure and social facilities for disabled people of all ages.

Each year, the Alan Shearer Foundation aims to raise at least £250,000 to cover all costs of the Centre, but most importantly to ensure all of its facilities remain free of charge to its members.

Thank you, Alan Shearer.
